Since high school days, I had peered at things, looked at colors, and read prescribed literary works through prescription glasses. After having recently gone through cataract surgery under the skillful hands of my eye surgeon, Dr. Kootman, I am now experiencing the wonderment of truly seeing – without those awful owlish glasses!
French novelist Marcel Proust once said, “The real voyage of discovery consists of not seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”
It is truly amazing how I can now literally view the world in a totally different light. How vividly orange the hummingbird trumpet flowers are, how scrawny the browning desert thorn had become, how agile the startled jack rabbit scampers behind the brittle bush, how beautiful the soul that peers out of people’s eyes.
Thank you, doctor, for this miracle of rediscovery. I once was “blind,” but now, I see.
